Manassas Park City Schools
Early Childhood Special Education Program
The Manassas Park City Schools Program for Early Childhood Special Education serves children ages 2 to 5 years old, who are eligible to receive special education services. Those services may include: speech and language, communication, social skills, cognitive skills, motor skills, or adaptive skills. The services and goals are developed in a plan that is individualized for each child or an IEP.
Continuum of services available:
- Speech Resource Program: Children who exhibit significant delays only in the area of speech and language may require direct services with a speech therapist to address their delays.
- Resource Program: Children who exhibit significant delays in one or more areas may be supported by a special educator in their natural environment.
- Combination Home/Center Based: Two year old children who exhibit significant delays in multiple areas of development may require special education services in a class based setting two mornings per week. In addition, the teacher provides a visit in the child's natural environment to carry over school strategies to home or childcare.
- Center Based Program: Children who exhibit significant delays in several areas of development may require special education support in a class based program.
- Center Based Program with Peer Models: Children who exhibit significant delays in several areas of development may require special education support in a class based program with typically developing peers. Children are working on social skills and independence.
Each IEP will address services that the team determines is most appropriate for the child. The plan may vary each year and will be addressed at each annual IEP meeting.
